The flag of the Federated States of Micronesia was opened on November 10, 1979.

Blue bottom, representing the Pacific Ocean, and four white pentagons representing four islands: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae.

The United Nations flag, the United States flag and the Pacific Islands Trusteeship Flag have been used. The final design is almost the same as the flag, except that there are three more stars representing Palau, the Marshall Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands (later independent), and Cosley is counted as part of Bonaparte, so there are six stars.
